REPORTS FROM THE LOCALS
Local 886, Tampa,
Florida. A special meeting was held on August 3, to re-affirm the
status of fire engine dogs as working dogs, there having been continuing
debates as to whether these fire dogs actually did any work, or were simply
decorative. A concensus was arrived at in favor of continuing status
as working dogs in as much as some of the riders actually got scorched
in the recent brush and forest fires. Especially as they always keep
their dues paid.
Local 205 Berne, Switzerland. Applications for unemployment payments from the strike fund by Saint Bernards have depleted the reserve. Special assessment on all members will be levied to tide the Saints over until cold weather unless another movie or two comes here for filming, with good payrole (oops payroll)soon.
Local 776 Washington D. C. An attempt to form a separate union by federally employed dogs is underway and WDW will stage its first opposition demonstration soon. No information will be released in advance.
Local 999 Monterey, California. There will be a vote at the next meeting (September 22) regarding the discontinuance of a scholarship fund because of recent campus happenings among the pups.
Local 1077, Three
Rivers, California. There will be a meeting on September 5 to hear
two more petitions from various local hounds who wish to be reclassified
as working dogs rather than sporting dogs. The
membership has
asked the hounds to bring credit reports to the meeting.
